Nitrogen in autoclave composite bonding:

On-site nitrogen generation can save up to as much as 60% over LIN.

Gas Systems Corporation supplies custom-designed and engineered on-site nitrogen generators to the composite bonding industry as an exceptionally cost-effective alternative to cryogenic liquid nitrogen (LIN) for purging autoclaves. A non-cryogenic nitrogen membrane or PSA generator can save you as much as 60 percent or more over a LIN supply system. We are able to maximize your investment by sizing the system to your particular usage need and eliminating the starting and stopping—typical of other systems—that consumes a lot of power and reduces the lifespan of the compression equipment.

The composite bonding industry has created a tremendous demand for advanced composites. The technology continues to grow at a very rapid rate to produce bonded honeycomb parts, metal-to-metal bonding and glass laminating. Industries such as aircraft, aerospace, automotive, computers, sporting goods, and others use autoclave-bonded composites for its outstanding strength, lightweight and superior resistance to environmental attack.

Composite bonding of two or more components is generally performed inside an autoclave at both elevated pressure and temperature to form a lightweight material with maximum structural strength. Since the process may generate volatile gases, the industry recommends a nitrogen purge system as a safety measure.
