and Gas Systems Corporation recently started up and commissioned a new generator system for Sterigenics International, Inc. located near Santa Teresa, NM.Sterigenics is a world leader in contact sterilization of medical devices and pharmaceuticals. The installed nitrogen generator system produces 23,000 scfh (600 Nm³/hr) of gaseous nitrogen at 99.0% purity and 250 psig pressure. The nitrogen is required to purge ethylene oxide, a volatile and flammable gas, from the sterilization chambers. The on-site generator replaces the Airgas liquid nitrogen (LIN) supply station. The decision to switch Sterigenics to a leased on-site generator system was primarily based on the availability of LIN supply in the immediate area and the distance required to truck LIN from the nearest production plant. The difference represents more than 60 percent cost savings over the previous LIN supply system.
