Nitrogen's advantages in the Huff & Puff process:
Inert, non-corrosive, and environmentally friendly.
At Gas Systems Corporation, we engineer our nitrogen gas generation technology to optimize the Huff & Puff process, and then support it with ongoing, expert service.
Nitrogen has successfully been substituted for CO2, water, and other solvents used in an Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technique called the huff and puff (cyclic) process. This process uses on-site generated non-cryogenic nitrogen for an economical benefit.
From a displacement standpoint, this process also takes advantage of nitrogen's unique characteristics, which allow natural gas to bypass and not be adsorbed during the huff phase, and then to take the place of and displace oil and gas during the puff phase.
The application is especially targeted for dual-porosity reservoirs where classic displacement mechanisms are non-commercial. From an operational standpoint, nitrogen is user-friendly in that it is inert, non-corrosive, and environmentally friendly.
The huff & puff (cyclic) process is a single well process involving three basic phases:
1. Huff phase: The nitrogen injectant is introduced into the well's drainage area.
2. Shut-in phase: The nitrogen injectant is allowed to dissipate into the reservoir to an optimum equilibrium.
3. Puff phase: Some of the nitrogen injectant is left in place and hydrocarbons are produced.
